This week’s molecule of the week is cannabidivarin aka CBDV, an all exciting trace cannabinoid found in our old favourite plant c. sativa.
CBDV is found predominately in plants from the Indian continent in indicia varieties, specifically land race indicia strains which are lower in THC.

Coming it at a molecular mass of 286 g/mol, this little lady is similar to its older cousin CBD in both its psycoactive activity and structure, other than the side chain being shortened by two methylene (CH2) bridges. It is derived from CBGVA rather than CBGA pathway.
CBDv has a boiling point of an astounding 439°C but a melting point of only 157.16°C, it is poorly soluble in water just like most cannabinoids.
Studies have show that CBDv is beneficial for a number of conditions including epilepsy, so a compound of great interest to me. It has also been proven to relieve symptoms of Crohns, HIV and multiple sclerosis.
Till next week
